This room stands for Yankee Stadium. The original opened on April 18, 1923, on 161st Street, and Babe Ruth hit its first home run that day. It was the first ballpark in the country to be called a stadium. The team moved across the street to the new Yankee Stadium in 2009, and the old site is now Heritage Field, a public park.

The white steel frieze around the upper deck, the limestone gate arches, the diamond and warning track, the outfield wall, the light towers, the bleachers. Mood: night game. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
