The Beaux Arts terrace on Broadway at 155th, the bronze horseman, then the two storey court in red terracotta with its arcaded gallery, the works among the Spanish painters.
Archer Milton Huntington founded the Hispanic Society of America in 1904 and opened its building at Audubon Terrace on Broadway at 155th Street in 1908, designed by his cousin Charles Pratt Huntington. His wife Anna Hyatt Huntington made the bronze El Cid on the terrace. The collection holds Goya's Duchess of Alba and Sorolla's Vision of Spain murals.

The plaza of white limestone institutions with the bronze equestrian at its centre, the main court lined in ornate red Spanish Renaissance terracotta with an arcaded upper gallery, the skylight, the Sorolla room of vision of Spain. Mood: audubon terrace, afternoon. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
