The observation decks of a limestone tower, glass panels at the edge, the whole island laid out around the works.
30 Rockefeller Plaza, first the RCA Building, was completed in 1933 as the centerpiece of Rockefeller Center. Raymond Hood led the design. Its observation deck on the 70th floor opened the same year, styled after the deck of an ocean liner. It closed in 1986 and reopened in 2005. The deck faces Central Park to the north and the Empire State Building to the south.

The stepped limestone crown of the slab, three terraced decks, safety glass panels between stone piers, the park to the north and the spire to the south, the city as the wall. Mood: blue hour. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
