A granite promenade under the bridge, weathered steel screens on the river side, Manhattan lit across the water.

Brooklyn Bridge Park covers 85 acres of former shipping piers along the East River in Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates designed it. The first section, Pier 1, opened in 2010, and Jane's Carousel opened in its glass pavilion the next year. Granite from the old Roosevelt Island bridge went into the park's steps and seating.

Gothic pointed arches in the towers, sagging main cables with vertical suspenders and diagonal stays, the deck truss. Mood: blue hour. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
