The Cyclone opened on June 26, 1927, at Surf Avenue and West 10th Street. Vernon Keenan designed it and Harry C. Baker built it, a wooden coaster with an 85 foot first drop. The city saved it from demolition in the 1970s and made it a landmark in 1988. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and still runs each summer.
