Orange decks, white rails, the cabin walls hung with New Yorkers, Liberty off the port side.
Ferries have crossed between Staten Island and Manhattan since the early 1800s. The City of New York took over the service in 1905. The fare was dropped in 1997, and the ride has been free since. The boats carry cars no longer, only people, on a 25 minute crossing past the Statue of Liberty.

The orange hull and white superstructure, side promenade decks, wheelhouse and funnel, Liberty and the skyline off the water. Mood: sunset crossing. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
