Artist Dustin Yellin founded Pioneer Works in 2012 in a three story iron works building from 1866 on Pioneer Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The center hosts residencies, exhibitions, science programs and concerts in its open hall and garden. Admission is free.

The long brick ironworks with its arched windows, the triple height main hall with balconies on three sides, the timber trusses, the garden of raised beds and a stage, the Statue and the harbor at the end of the street. Mood: second sunday, the garden open. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
