Moynihan Train Hall opened on January 1, 2021, inside the James A. Farley Post Office. McKim, Mead and White designed the post office, which opened in 1914 across Eighth Avenue from the original Pennsylvania Station. That station was demolished in 1963, and its loss helped start the city's landmarks law. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designed the new hall under a skylight held by the old mail sorting trusses.

Exposed riveted trusses, the vaulted skylight lattice, the suspended Art Deco clock, limestone walls. Mood: the morning rush. Everything is procedural geometry with painted surfaces; nothing is a scan or a photograph. The room is an interpretation, and it hangs the New Yorkers the census recorded at this place first.
